Often,
the use of glulam or solid timber is
for an atmosphere exposed to moisture. Southern Yellow Pine that is
pressure preservative treated with ACQ to a retention of 0.60 is
available for ground contact or other exposure to moisture.
Another
form of treatment to glulams involves pressure
treating the laminate
stock with CCA before gluing. Use of this product is not recommended
for residential applications or contact with the ground.
Species naturally resistant to decay
such
as Western Red Cedar, Alaskan Yellow Cedar or Port Orford Cedar are
also available for locations subject to direct exposure to
precipitation.
